Andrea & Chris

Distillery District Wedding

Andrea & Chris planned their wedding while living in China so although we were able to chat on the phone and send lots of emails we didn’t have a chance to meet before their big day. Lindsay and I got to shoot this wedding together and we adored them instantly – they were fun & laidback and their wedding was intimate and meaningful. We loved it!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less: Fun, Romantic, Intimate, Relaxed, and Elegant

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day? Right after the ceremony we escaped and went outside for a couple of minutes of privacy. It was just enough time to find a bit of reality in an otherwise very surreal experience. We had a great hug!

Best wedding related decision: When we got engaged in July 2010 we had initially thought that we’d need 2 years to get the wedding together because we live in China. A couple of friends insisted that we could plan it all in a year, even long-distance. I’m so glad that we listened.

Favourite detail: Our friends and family played a big role in the preparations. Chris’ good friend designed the invitations, Andrea’s cousin baked the cake, generous family members and friends prepared our dessert buffet treats, and the bandleader was Chris’ old friend from music school. Those personal touches added a lot to the intimacy and warmth of our wedding.

Advice for future brides & grooms: Don’t forget to take the time to eat food and drink some water!

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again? We took our pictures before the ceremony, and it was the best decision that we could have made but it didn’t leave either of us, or our close family members, time before the ceremony to check the sound system, put out the games and toys for the kids table, or check the other small details. If we could do it all again, we would have made a list of items to triple-check and we would have picked an organized, assertive person to take care of them before the ceremony.

Best surprise of the day: We weren’t sure how the Snapz photo booth would be received. We were surprised at how much it was loved by kids of all ages! It was so much fun reading our guest book that includes loving comments beside hilarious photo strips.

Favorite HRM picture from the day (and why?): We both love this picture (#187) because it reminds us of how we felt on our wedding day. In addition to that, the evening light is amazing and the colours are lovely.

Anything else you’d like to add: The day passed so quickly and it really was difficult to take it all in. Thank you to Heather and Lindsay for doing such a beautiful job of documenting the details of our wedding day. They managed to capture feelings and expressions on our guests during the ceremony that neither of us noticed during the moment, they took photos of our friends laughing and catching up, and they’ve got a knack for making fussy babies smile. Xie Xie Nimen (as they say in China)!
