Lindsey & David

The Old Court House Wedding

Looking back at the images from Lindsey & David’s wedding,  I’m so happy with all the different elements of their day I captured for them: beautiful portraits & details but not at the expense of touching candid moments with friends & family! It was a very simple low key day but one of my favorites in recent memory. Thank you so much for inviting me to document your celebration!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less:
Simple, joyful and family honouring

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride: Probably a tie – enjoying getting ready with family and friends, and seeing David for the first time all dressed up.
Groom: Seeing Lindsey for the first time. HRM did a great job of staging how we first saw each other.

Best wedding related decision:
To have the wedding on a Sunday. Although we decided to do this because of lack of venue options originally it really opened up a whole bunch of new possibilities that we couldn’t have planned on. It also allowed us to get married during the time of year we wanted.

Favourite detail:
Bride: How our seating tree turned out. We created a seating tree with each person’s name on a hand made paper blossom.
Groom: At our reception we chose to show off pictures of our parents and grandparents. It was a way to show that we were very thankful for the legacy they have left. We were also really thrilled with how the colour combination we chose worked in our flowers, invites and just in general. The lime green worked really well.

Advice for future brides & grooms:
Groom: Decide at the very beginning what you both really value when it comes to the details of the wedding and how it happens. Then from there decide on your budget.
Bride: Don’t let your expectations be determined by the wedding industry. Decide for yourself and stick to your budget.

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again?
The only thing we can think of would be to double check with our sound guy at the church to make sure he had the right song for the recessional. The song that actually played was quite a bit different than the one we chose. In the end though we didn’t really care and its something to laugh about now.

Anything else you’d like to add:
We had many people ask us after if Heather was a family friend! That is because of how she put everyone at ease and was amazing at handling the bridal party and our families. We ended up with many amazing pictures besides the ones we had on our “must take” list. I, the bride, am especially thankful that Heather came up with the idea of snapping some photos of me and one of my grandmothers. She passed away recently after suffering a long battle with cancer. The expression and joy that Heather captured is the way I will always remember her. I am so grateful for those pictures. We are SO pleased with all of our pictures and would highly recommend HRM!

VENDORS : Ceremony Location – Hillside Church, London | Reception Location – Old Court House, London | Officiant – Phil Shamas, The Meeting House | Cake – didn’t have one | Dress – Zenas bridal store | Wedding Planner – Us smile | Flowers/Decorator – Village Vines, Arva | Hair/Makeup – Lids hair salon, Laura Peters (makeup) | Caterer – Culinary Catering

WEDDING SONGS: Processional – In Christ Alone, hymn by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend | Recessional – You are the best thing, Ray LaMontagne | Entrance – You are the best thing, Ray LaMontagne (because at the church there was a mix up so we opted to use this song for the entrance) | First Dance – n/a | Parent Dances – n/a | Other – When I say I do, Matthew West

We were about to leave to meet the guys when someone mentioned that Lindsey’s grandmother wanted to see her before she left for the ceremony. Her grandmother wasn’t dressed yet and I could have rushed off to the next location but instead suggested gramma get dressed and we set up a special “first look” with the bride. I just love how her mom is candidly watching from the doorway. What a beautiful moment, I’m so glad I spent the extra time to capture it – especially hearing that Lindsey’s grandmother has since passed away.

Favorite HRM picture from the day (and why?):

Groom: picture 230 the one with Lindsey and I sitting in the tall grass and we are laughing about something. I really like how it captures one of many moments we were able to enjoy through the day between us. I think this picture shows the happiness that we both had and how much we were just really enjoying the day. (below)

Best surprise of the day:Favorite HRM picture from the day (and why?):

Bride: picture 635 the one with David and I snuggling in black and white. I really like the intimacy captured and the feeling of closeness and togetherness you get from looking at it.
