Jodie & Erik

{St. Justin's Parish London Ontario Wedding Photography}

What an incredible day! Looking back, I can help but laugh in amazement at how everything worked out SO perfectly for Jodie & Erik’s big day! It started raining just as we left for the ceremony, stopped raining when we arrived and an incredible sunbeam hit Jodie’s face as she walked down the aisle. We got some beautiful outside photos in a random field, then drove to a greenhouse (arranged at the last minute) in a torential downpour and took some great shots inside,  it stopped raining and gave us a beautiful dark sky, rained on way to the receptoin and then the sun came out just in time for family photos. It started raining again during the reception and then stopped as we ventured out for some nighttime shots. Ridiculous!! I can’t think of a couple more deserving for such a perfect day – Jodie & Erik you guys have some great karma going – keep it up!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less:
Elegant Island wedding at home

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride: The preparations with my girls before we left for the church and feeling the excitement build. The nervous yet special moment came when my father joined my hand with Erik’s as he handed me off.
Groom: Standing at the front of the church and watching my beautiful bride walk towards me. The sun burst that hit her halfway down the aisle via a skylight was enough to melt the heart.

Best wedding related decision:
The first things that come to mind are having selected the Golden Harps Steel Orchestra to play at our wedding reception. You would not believe the energy they added to our party and the compliments that were expressed to us. The second best decision would have to be having a shuttle service. We arranged for coaches to shuttle our guests from the hotel to the church, then to the reception and back to the hotels at the end of the evening. Our party goers could enjoy the provided beverages and still have a safe night.

Favourite detail:
Erik and I disagree on this point. For me I have to say that I really enjoyed our wedding cake. Having only sat down with the designer, Martha, one time she was able to design a cake that fit my vision perfectly. Erik would have to say that the limo was his favourite detail. He didn’t want to go with a stretch and the Lincoln limos were far too common. Our friend Micky at Blue Star Taxi chauffeurs with an Audi A8L this was the car for him and we were super happy that Micky could accommodate.

Advice for future brides & grooms:
Our first piece of advice would be to book your venue, church and vendors early. You’d be surprised at how quickly these things fill up during the prime months. Secondly, don’t procrastinate. Set deadlines and stick to them! If there is a way to do something ahead of time do it. We saved a great deal of cash by booking our people early and having them honour old prices in the new year.

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again?
It is cliché to say that we would go back and enjoy the process. In actual fact, planning a wedding is stressful but it helped us build a stronger relationship having gone through the steps. Try to enjoy it as much as possible, but know that these will be stressful times.

Best surprise of the day:
We were married on a rainy day. The best surprises were when the sunny outbursts seemed to hit every time we wanted to take photos outside. A great memory is Heather running up to our head table and telling us that we had to act NOW. Turns out that it was raining over our venue, but the sun was shining off in the distance. We were able to get some amazing shots.

Favourite HRM picture from the day (and why?):
Our favourite shot of the day has to be the photo that Heather took of us toasting with champagne flutes. The nightfall over the golf course and the side illumination created a magazine perfect image. Wow.

Anything else you’d like to add:
We would like to thank Heather and her vision. Our wedding photos are unbelievable. I would highly recommend that if you are planning on having Heather photograph for your wedding that you also contract her for your engagement photos. We were a bit nervous during the engagement session, but having her back at the wedding was like having fun with an old friend.
